Superintendent Nitti's Welcome Back to School Letter to the Ewing School Community

August 30th, 2022

Dear Ewing School Community,

An enthusiastic “Welcome Back!” to the Ewing School Community as students return on Tuesday, September 6th.  I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer!

As you most likely know, this will be my fourteenth and final “Welcome Back” letter as my time as superintendent concludes in the upcoming months.  I shared my feelings and affinity for the school community in my summer correspondence, but I wanted to again state how appreciative I am for the opportunity to work with you all, how honored I am to have served the community, and how grateful I am for the many positive and outstanding experiences I had during my career at Ewing.

The administrative team has been working hard throughout the summer to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and achieve during the upcoming school year in a positive, caring and harmonious learning environment.

As we return to school, we are excited for our first relatively normal opening of school since September of 2019, but Covid continues to be a concern and a reason to practice caution.  We recently released our Addendum to our Return to School Plan. It is available on the district website, but I can summarize the main points of the approach with the following principles that will help keep our schools safe and healthy:

  • Physical distance as much as possible.
  • Practice proper hygiene and sanitary habits.
  • Stay up to date on your vaccines/boosters.
  • Look for the opportunity to practice prudent masking.
  • Self-screen each morning and do not come to school if you are sick.
  • Remember that we have Rapid Covid Tests available for students/families in the nurse’s office.

At the August Board meeting, the BOE approved the district’s annual Board Goals.  Take a moment to review them and you will notice the major themes that will drive our work this year.  You will also note our district theme.  After years of “themes” related to Referendum ’18 and dealing with Covid, the feeling was we should again embrace and emphasize our mission statement: Providing a Foundation for Life.

As we move into the new school year, please join me in providing warm greetings to our new staff members of The Ewing Public Schools.   Our new hires are listed below, so look for an opportunity to welcome them to our school community.  They already have come to understand that we have a supportive school community in Ewing.  I wish them all long and happy careers with The Ewing Public Schools.

In closing, I encourage everyone to come out and support the outstanding students we have in the Ewing Schools.  Whether is in academics, the arts, athletics or any other activity, you will see that our students are wonderful ambassadors of Ewing Township.

A final note of thanks to the entire school community for all of your help, support and understanding during this past couple of years.  The Ewing School Community should be very proud of the unity, solidarity and fortitude that was demonstrated.

Best wishes for a great school year!

Sincerely,

Michael Nitti

Superintendent of Schools
