Male Female Athletes of the Year/Karas-McGurk Awards Presented

Ewing High School celebrated its senior student-athletes with the return of the Athletic Awards Night Dinner to honor the accomplishments of the EHS Class of 2022.

Highlighting the evening was the annual presentation of the prestigious Karas-McGurk award to a male and female student-athlete.  The Karas-McGurk Award is dedicated to the memory of Andy Karas and Joe McGurk, who were longtime supporters and benefactors of Blue Devil Athletics.

Jamie Allen-Threadgill

Thomas VellengaEHS Girls Basketball's Jamie Allen-Threadgill was honored as this year’s female recipient of the Karas-McGurk Award.

As a senior leader on a young squad, Allen-Threadgill was a steady inside presence and a key part of the Blue Devils' high-powered offense and stingy defense.  She also turned in some key performances during the Blue Devils tournament runs on their way to County and State Sectional Championships and always demonstrated composure and sportsmanship.   A high-performing student in the classroom, Allen-Threadgill was named as a Mercer CYO All-Star, garnered Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades, and was presented with the George O’Gorman Scholarship. She plans on attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

On the Boys side, Thomas Vellenga was honored as the male winner of the Karas-McGurk Award.  Vellenga is a versatile athlete who excelled on the soccer pitch and on the track.  A stellar student, Vellenga is a member of the National Honor Society and a Ewing High School Peer Leader.  He will be headed to the United States Military Academy in West Point in the summer.

Sierra Reid

EHS Girls Bowling’s Sierra Reid was named Female Senior Athlete of the Year.  Reid led the Blue Devils to a state title in a thrilling championship competition and was named the Female Co-Bowler of the Year by the Times of Trenton.  Reid plans on becoming an educator and will begin her studies at Mercer County Community College in the fall.

Tytus Grossman-Toliver was named the Male Senior Athlete of the Year.  Grossman-Toliver was the Mercer County Indoor Track Champion in Shot Put and was selected for the All Area Winter track team. He was also named to the First Team for the West Jersey Football League Valley Division All-Star selections earlier this year. He will be attending East Stroudsburg University in the fall.
