Ewing Schools Release: COVID Management Team Update-Thursday, April 14th

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 14, 2022      1PM

We hope that everyone is enjoying a relaxing Spring Break.

We wanted to touch base regarding some COVID-related items as students return to school on Tuesday, April 19th.

As you may have seen in media accounts, there has been a recent uptick in COVID cases in the area, most likely attributable to the emerging “stealth-Omicron” variant.

This increase in cases is expected to continue, especially in the aftermath of Spring Break traveling and holiday gatherings.

As a result, we are recommending the wearing of high quality masks for students and staff during the first two weeks back from Spring Break, especially when adequate physical distancing cannot be established.  Please keep in mind that this is a recommendation, not a mandate or requirement.  Again, we emphasize the practicing of “prudent masking,” when you are in a social situation when physical distancing is difficult to achieve, or a potentially higher risk setting.  In these situations, bring your mask and wear it as much as possible.  This includes the school bus and the cafeteria, where students should be encouraged to maintain physical distancing, eat quickly, and then resume mask wearing.

A reminder that we must be respectful of all who continue to choose to wear masks as we deal with this ever-evolving situation.  It is not acceptable to make any negative or disparaging comments about any student or staff member who chooses to continue to wear a mask.

Some other COVID-related notes:

  • Please remember to practice prudent measures to stop the spread of COVID.  Physical distancing and proper hygiene should be emphasized.  Each and every day, conduct the COVID health screening and do not send your child to school if they are unwell.
  • Please continue to emphasize proper hand-washing and hygienic practices to minimize the spread of viruses.
  • If your child is eligible for a booster, and has not received it, please consider it.
  • If an individual is not vaccinated, and not wearing a mask in school, and deemed to be a “close contact” to a positive COVID case by our contact tracers, they will have to quarantine for a minimum of five days, then wear a mask for days 6-10.
  • All staff and students who are returning from a COVID diagnosis must wear a mask for days 6-10 upon their return to school.
  • Non-vaccinated students or staff who travel out of the region do not have to quarantine, however they should wear masks for Days 1-5 upon their return, and closely self-screen for COVID symptoms.
  • In accordance with the law, we will continue weekly COVID testing of non-vaccinated staff members.
  • We have received a shipment of Flowflex COVID-19 antigen home rapid tests from the government.  They are available in the nurse’s office in each school.  The school nurses will not conduct the test, but will provide it to the parent for home testing if COVID is suspected, or by request.

All of our other health and safety protocols-hand sanitizers, daily health screenings, an emphasis on physical distancing, filtration/cleaning protocols-remain in place.

As always, remember to continue to monitor our communication portals for any updates or changes.

Thank you for working with us to keep our schools as safe as possible as we make our way towards the end of the school year.
