As you may be aware, our nation is experiencing a widespread shortage of school bus drivers. As a result we have seen some disruptions in providing transportation, particularly on bus runs servicing our athletic programs both at Fisher Middle School and Ewing High School.
First, we want to thank our families, school leaders, and community for demonstrating incredible patience and for working with us as we continue to manage this challenging bus driver shortage that is impacting thousands of school districts across the country. We continue to work with our local legislators, as well as County and State offices of Education, as we try to improve the situation for our students and community.
The main issue impacting our operations is that our partner contractors simply do not have enough drivers on a daily basis to both service our athletic programs as well as get students to and from school. The latter is what they have been keeping their focus on, which of course, then impacts athletic bus runs. This unfortunately has led to sometimes having to cancel, revise, or reschedule our EHS and FMS athletic competitions.
We are actively trying to hire additional bus drivers for the in-house busses we do have and will soon take delivery of two additional busses. We are also exploring innovative and collaborative solutions with fellow impacted school districts. That being stated, the issue of qualified available drivers is likely to last into the winter and spring athletic seasons.
We know that this has been an incredibly difficult way to begin our school year, and we will continue to do everything in our power to overcome the challenges we are facing as a community. Our students deserve the best and we are working to provide the best possible service.
