District Release: Events in Washington, D.C., on January 6th, 2021

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 7th, 2021   9:00AM

Yesterday was another difficult day in a challenging time in American history.

Our foremost concern is always the health and well-being of our students.

We understand that children witnessing the events that unfolded in Washington, D.C., on television and social media can generate a variety of reactions such as worry, confusion or anxiety.

For some students who may be experiencing feelings of uncertainty, unhappiness and fear during the ongoing public health crisis, the unrest exhibited in Washington, D.C., may add emotions such as confusion, anger and hopelessness.

Our staff will continue to reassure students that school, whether virtual or “in-person”, is a safe haven as well as a place of learning and respectful conversation. Our Curriculum and Instruction team has developed resources and materials to guide our teachers in reviewing yesterday’s turbulent developments. The district will provide staff resources to facilitate respectful and honest conversation as well as post family resources. Our counselors and mental health experts are available to assist students or families who require additional support.

The Ewing Public Schools is committed to addressing the needs of our students and staff while navigating these challenges.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Michael Nitti

Superintendent of Schools
