Important District Communication: FMS and OBA to be Fully Virtual until Monday, November 30th

November 13th, 2020

Dear Ewing School Community,

We have learned that a second Fisher Middle School staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

After having only one isolated COVID-related staff issue since our reopening, having two staff members in one building test positive is highly concerning to us. Our foremost priority is the health and safety of our school community members.  The worsening COVID-19 public health developments statewide are obviously troublesome and creating increasing challenges for school districts throughout the state.

Neither staff member was a classroom teacher, and one had worked mostly virtually with students and has not been in the building since November 2nd. Contact tracing and notifications of potentially impacted students are currently taking place regarding the newest case.  FMS and OBA will send out an instant alert when the process is completed.

Based upon feedback and “best practice” guidance from public health officials and other stakeholders with relevance and expertise, we have made the decision to make Fisher Middle School and the O’Brien Academy fully virtual until Monday, November 30th.  (A Day)

We hope that you respect and understand this decision. It is certainly disappointing, but our commitment to the safety and health of our school community must remain our highest priority.

Please know that we are available and ready to help any family that needs assistance with remote learning. Please contact the appropriate Remote Learning Coordinator for assistance with technology or academic needs. Also please know that our counseling and student service departments are available for any family that feels they need support.

We are also again reminding any families who have a child who tests positive to notify the school main or health office immediately.

We appreciate your support and cooperation. You can assist us by remaining vigilant but sensible in your approach to dealing with this health concern.

Sincerely,

Michael Nitti

Superintendent of Schools
