Male Female Athletes of the Year/Karas-McGurk Awards Presented

Ewing High School celebrated its senior student-athletes with a video Athletic Awards Night to highlight the accomplishments of the graduating class.

Highlighting the evening was the annual presentation of the prestigious Karas-McGurk award to a male and female student-athlete.  The Karas-McGurk Award is dedicated to the memory of Andy Karas and Joe McGurk, who were longtime supporters and benefactors of Blue Devil Athletics.

Two-sport standout Jentle Sheridan was named the female Karas-McGurk winner.  Sheridan is a model student in the hallways of Ewing High School and is the consummate definition of a well-rounded student athlete.  She is an All-Conference performer for the always strong EHS Girls Basketball program and exceled on the softball diamond in the spring while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.  Jentle will be attending Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania this fall majoring in Health Sciences.

On the Boys side, the male winner of the Karas-McGurk Athlete Scholarship is Michael Abelowitz, a three-season athlete participating in Football, Wrestling and Boys Lacrosse, all while maintaining a GPA of over 3.9.  He is also a member of National Honor Society and a Ewing High School Peer Leader.  Michael will be heading to the University of New Haven in Connecticut majoring in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Olivia Ross was the winner of the NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete Award for 2020.  Olivia is an outstanding student-athlete and a member of the EHS Girls Bowling Team that won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group II Sectional Championship for the first time in school history. Olivia is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Peer Leader.  She will be staying close to her Ewing roots attending The College of New Jersey in the fall majoring in Accountancy.

EHS Track’s Dailan Peck, one of the top high jumpers and track performers in the state, was named Male Senior Athlete of the Year.  Sheridan also garnered the Female Athlete of the Year award.
