Ewing High School Students Excel at the Mercer County Teen Arts Festival
On May 3rd Visual and Performing Art students from Ewing High School traveled to Mercer County Community College to participate in the 2019 Teen Arts Festival at Mercer County College. The festival hosted visual and performing art students from high schools throughout Mercer County.
Teen Arts Festivals are forums where students who have created outstanding works in arts initiatives throughout the year can premiere their works to an audience of peers and educators.
The focus of the festival is not on competition but on participation in performance seminars, critiquing sessions, master classes and workshops in media and visual art, dance, drama, vocal and instrumental music, film and creative writing.
Goals of the program are to help students develop perceptual, intellectual and technical skills; gain cultural awareness and understanding; develop personal aesthetic values and learn self-discipline, critical thinking and problem solving through analyzing, interpreting and making judgments.
Teachers from schools participating in the event were given the task to select visual and performing artists that went above and beyond in their craft. Students attending the event participated in formal critiques of their work from professional artists in the field, attended workshops of their choosing, and enjoyed live performances by their peers.
Outstanding performing and exhibiting teen artists from county-level Teen Arts Festivals were selected to move on to the three-day New Jersey Teen Arts Festival held at Ocean County Community College. This year's state show will be held May 30-31 and June 1.
