Lore Hosts SEL Winter Wonderland Family Night
Lore School hosted its second annual Title I SEL Winter Wonderland Family Night in January 2023, and it was a hit with everyone in attendance. While teachers and staff members discussed social-emotional learning, Zones of Regulation, and mindfulness with parents and families, students engaged in activities intended to bring their mind, body, and breathing together. Students created mindfulness jars, painted or colored crafts, and engaged in Yoga activities. Students and staff members explained to families and guests that these strategies can be used by anyone who may be feeling upset or when emotions "get big," and everyone left with resources to continue using these strategies at home. One student explained it perfectly when he said, "Everyone gets angry or upset. It's totally normal. It's what you do to calm down that makes the difference."

Lore School Safety Patrol is BACK!
Lore School brought back the School Safety Patrol program for the 2022-2023 school year. The School Safety Patrols are an essential component to the arrival and dismissal procedures that welcome students to school every day and send them home after a day of learning. The patrols are made up of 5th graders who have earned the privilege to wear their safety belts. Their responsibilities include reporting to their posts on time, welcoming students at each entry door, assisting when younger students bring in projects or need their shoes tied, helping our younger children get to their classes in the morning and ensuring that students are acting in a safe manner in the hallways and outside after school. Our patrols follow the guidelines of AAA and wear the AAA safety patrol belts. These exemplary students do a wonderful job of helping to keep our students safe and start and end their days with a kind smile and a helping hand. In addition to keeping our students safe, the safety patrols serve as excellent role models for our younger students and for students who aspire to take on a leadership role in our school.

Learning Math through Play
Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." Thus is the premise for the elementary schools' math program. At Lore School, students spent time this fall exploring math concepts such as place value by interacting with manipulatives and playing games with classmates.

Supporting Students Socially, Emotionally, and Academically
It was once said, "Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." With this in mind, the staff at Lore School spent the first weeks of school focusing on the social-emotional needs of students and engaging in activities that brought students and staff together.

Who to Contact When...2022-2023
On occasion, a parent may have a concern, complaint, suggestion or request related to a school decision or policy. Many questions are easily and completely answered by communicating directly with the person in charge of the class or program. Each situation should first be addressed at whatever level the initial action was taken, with appeals moving on to the next level in the chain of command.
