• In a culminating activity to their elementary years, the fifth graders participate in an outdoor education program at Camp Bernie (a YMCA camp in Port Murray, NJ), where they meet individual challenges and learn the meaning of cooperative living, working as a group and being the best person they can be.

Students are provided with the physical and mental challenges of a confidence course, low ropes course, rigorous hike to Point Mountain, orienteering, and a climbing tower. These activities help them to demonstrate their social maturity and personal strength. A common thread woven among all these activities is that children must put into practice all of the theory and concepts of cooperation, encouragement, trust, and acceptance that have been a part of their Lore School education up to that point in their lives. This event brings together students, volunteer staff members and parents for the purposes of building social confidences and “unity”.
