Supporting Our Students through Grief and Loss

During times of grief, adults often struggle with what to say to a child who may be struggling with grief. Younger students may have more difficulty understanding death and may experience misinterpretations when death is explained.  Older students may experience feelings of guilt or blame.  Providing a safe and non-judgemental environment to talk about any feelings of anxiety, regret, guilt, sadness or anger can be very helpful in supporting grieving children of all ages (National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement, 2022).

Welcome to the Lore Elementary School Counseling Department! As the school counselor, I work with all students here at Lore. School counselors assist with academic, career, and personal and social development. According to the American School Counselor Association’s National Model, school counselors provide services in the following areas:

     School Counseling Components

When you need information or assistance, I can help you get in touch with the appropriate school officials, learn about school policies on behavior, and stay connected with the school in many other ways. I can also help you locate resources in the community when you need them and get information on programs that can benefit your child. School counselors provide services not only to students in need, but to all students. If your child is having a problem at school, I will work with you to find solutions. In short, I am here for your child! I may not have all the answers, but I will help you find them.

If you have concerns about your child, I am always here to help!
