Mrs. Shanahan is the Guidance Counselor for Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, and 4th Grade at Antheil Elementary School. She has been a Guidance Counselor for three years, and has been at Antheil since February 2018. Prior to beginning her career as a Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Shanahan was an Academic Advisor at Montclair State University for five years. In her current role, Mrs. Shanahan assists the students of Antheil with succeeding academically, socially, and emotionally by providing individual student meetings, conflict mediation meetings, small group counseling, and classroom lessons regarding a variety of social-emotional learning topics such as bullying prevention, emotions, responsibility, growth mindset, goal setting, respect, friendship, self esteem, conflict resolution, friendship, mindfulness, test preparation, coping skills, healthy choices, and careers.
Mrs. Shanahan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Montclair State University in Psychology in 2011. She received her Master of Arts degree in School Counseling in 2014, also from Montclair State University.
Mrs. Shanahan's personal philosophy on working with children is that every student can succeed when provided with personalized and appropriate support and strategies. It is her goal to build a strong relationship with each of the students on her caseload, to spread positivity at Antheil, to provide a safe space for her students to speak openly about both the issues that they face and to celebrate their successes, as well as to make strong and positive connections with her students' families, community partners, and other key stakeholders. By working together, we can succeed in ensuring the success of all of the student at Antheil academically, socially, and emotionally.
