I hope that you are having a wonderful and restful summer break. As summer is ending, we are very excited for what the 2017-2018 school year will bring Antheil students! I truly look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday, September 6th.
I am proud to say that each year, Antheil has made it a priority to add technology to our building so that we can continue to prepare our students for the 21st century. Every Antheil classroom, Pre-K - 5, has either a Smart Table, a Smart Board or a document camera to use for instruction and student engagement. Additionally, we have individual Chromebooks for every third, fourth and fifth grade student. These Chromebooks are used daily and in all content areas. Lastly, we have three portable laptop carts and one iPad cart that houses 30 laptops/iPads each. Teachers are able to infuse technology by having students use these laptops and/or iPads in the classroom for instruction.
We will continue our reading incentive for the 2017-2018 school year. K-5 students will be recognized for reading every night through our monthly reading rallies and initiative, “Reading is Out of This World!” Daily reading practice improves comprehension and fluency. Please remember to have your child read nightly and sign their reading logs. Just as a reminder, if Antheil hits our summer goal of 50,000 pages of reading, I have agreed to do the ice bucket challenge when students return to school in September!
Safety is a priority at Antheil Elementary. Through collaboration and feedback, we continue to work together to ensure that our school is both a welcoming and safe environment for our students, staff and community. Please know that there will be security drills practiced every month and safety procedures in place for when visitors/parents enter the building. All visitors must come to the main office to sign in. When picking up your child, please bring identification with you.
Antheil will continue to implement Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS), our school wide behavior initiative. PBIS is a research based program proven to cultivate a more positive school climate. PBIS establishes a common language, vision, and experience for everyone in our school. Students will be recognized for “Doing the Right Thing!” Students will learn specific social and behavioral expectations related to being respectful, responsible, resourceful and ready to learn every day.
As we move into the 2017-2018 school year, we will prepare our students for the state assessment, Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). These assessments are computer-based and are aligned to rigorous New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). PARCC assessments will be given to grades 3, 4 and 5 in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Please remember to check Antheil’s website for our monthly calendar of school and PTO events under shortcuts. Save the date for our Welcome Back Picnic on September 29th! Additionally, please check the virtual backpack weekly for flyers, as we are a green district.
With over 20 years of experience as an educator, I continue to strive to provide my students with the best possible educational setting. As we enter the 2017-2018 school year together, please know that I am committed to all Antheil students and families. My door is always open, and I truly appreciate your feedback and support. Through this team effort, our possibilities are endless.
