Mrs. Kawalek joined the Ewing Township Public Schools as a teacher of English Language Arts in December 1997. She taught reading and writing to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Gilmore J. Fisher Middle School until July 2008, when she began working with elementary, middle, and high school teachers as the District Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for English Language Arts. In 2014, Mrs. Kawalek also began to support teachers of English Language Learners as well as each building's media specialist.  In 2018, Mrs. Kawalek brought her wealth of experience within the district to Lore Elementary School and became their building Principal. In June 2025, Mrs. Kawalek assumed the role of Director of Elementary Education and Assessment, which allowed her to bridge her experiences in curriculum and instruction with those as building principal, ultimately supporting teaching and learning throughout the district.

 

Recognized as a leader in the field of curriculum and instruction, Mrs. Kawalek possesses a wealth of professional knowledge and expertise. She has provided professional development to teachers on topics such as aligning instruction to standards, actively engaging students in learning, and supporting all students in a diverse school community. Widely respected as an instructional leader, Mrs. Kawalek has presented workshops on topics such as Disciplinary Literacy, Assessment and Grading, Strengthening the Parent-Teacher Relationship, and Changing the Conversation about Student Behavior. During her time as a district supervisor for the Ewing Schools, Mrs. Kawalek oversaw the revision of many curricula and the adoption of new instructional practices. She also served as an Adjunct Professor for The College of New Jersey and is an active member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, International Society for Technology in Education, New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, and the Association of School Administrators.
