As a teacher who firmly believes in making STUDENTS responsible for their own performance, especially seniors in high school who desire to attend college next year, my expectation is for your children to work hard, be prepared, be respectful, and be HERE!
Throughout Collections, students will engage in collaborative discussions, writing, oral presentations, media production, and performance tasks that require effective expression. These skills are essential to students’ secondary education and postsecondary success. In Collections 12th Grade edition, students will not only ruminate over classical British works such as Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, and Hamlet, but they will also evaluate and connect with a variety of classic and contemporary poetry, speeches, short stories, and nonfiction works.
This is a writing intensive course. Students will be learning how to compose a variety of works of different styles including argumentative, informative, and literary analysis papers. The majority of homework will be paragraph responses to reading conducted in class and at home. Students should expect to regularly complete timed writings in class. These timed writings will count as quiz grades and periodically will serve as rough drafts for more formal writing. Students should expect to compose 2-3 formal essays per marking period.
Summer Reading is required for Senior Honors.
