    NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETYNHS

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS) IS AN ELITE ORGANIZATION OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE EXCELLENT ACADEMIC STANDING AS WELL AS SERVICE TO THEIR SCHOOL AND OR COMMUNITY.

NHS MEMBERSHIP GIVES STUDENTS AN ADVANTAGE WHEN APPLYING TO COLLEGE. NHS MEMBERS STAND OUT AT GRADUATION BECAUSE THEY WEAR A GOLD STOLE AND TASSEL. THE PROCESS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

    • REQUIRES A 3.5 GPA TO BE ELIGIBLE.

    • NHS ADVISOR CHECKS ELIGIBILITY IN THE SPRING OF YOUR CHILD'S JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEARS.

    • LIST OF ELIGIBILITY IS POSTED AND APPLICATIONS ARE MADE AVAILABLE.

    • FACULTY EVALUATES EACH ELIGIBLE STUDENT ON LEADERSHIP, CHARACTER, AND SERVICE.

    • COMMUNITY OR SCHOOL SERVICE IS REQUIRED. SOME SUGGESTIONS ARE:

    Ø       PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOL SPORTS.

Ø       INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL CLUBS ESPECIALLY ROTARY INTERACT, KEY CLUB, AND STUDENT GOVERNMENT.

Ø       BOY SCOUTS OR GIRL SCOUTS.

Ø       YOUTH GROUPS OR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS.

    • START A NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FOLDER TODAY. THIS WILL MAKE THE APPLICATION PROCESS EASIER.
    • STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION IN A TIMELY FASHION. THE APPLICATION REQUIRES THAT STUDENTS LIST ACTIVITIES, SERVICE, HONORS, AND JOBS. STUDENTS MUST GET ADVISORS OR COACHES TO VERIFY AND RATE THESE ACTIVITIES.
    • A SELECTION COMMITTEE MEETS TO DETERMINE WHETHER A STUDENT MEETS ALL QUALIFICATIONS FOR NHS.
    • STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT ACCEPTED ARE GIVEN ADVICE AS TO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO GAIN ACCEPTANCE THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
