Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
You are in for an exhilarating school year! We have over 35 new staff members joining our Ewing Family as well as several new administrators:
- Director of Athletics/Health and Physical Education Supervisor, Mr. Ernest Covington
- K-12 Instructional Supervisor for the Humanities, Mr. Brock Mislan
- Director of Counseling and Assessment – Dr. Karen Allen (Benton)
- High School Assistant Principal – Ms. Shalieka Jarret
The opening of new school year is an exciting time and we are thrilled to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! While the Curriculum and Instruction Team has several new members, our time remains committed to “Providing a foundation for life”.
Our mission is to promote academic excellence through delivering a coherent PK-12 instructional program, which prepares all students for a variety of post high school options: 2-4 year college, vocational school, entrepreneurship or the workshop force. We will balance our strong academic program with a focus on social/emotional skills which promotes our students’ wellness and openness to learning.
We will continue expanding the Genesis Parent Access features available to the community. All K-12 reports cards will be released through Genesis. Printed copies will only be available to families who contact a school’s main office and arrange to receive a hard copy of the report card. Athletes can now access the Athletic packet through Genesis for all sport seasons.
We will continue to support the engineering design process in grades K-2. As a pilot, one grade level (from 3rd through 5th) in each elementary school will develop and implement an interdisciplinary S.T.E.M. day this school year
Fisher Middle School will implement new instructional math resource (College Preparatory Math) which is currently used in grade 9-12 math courses. This will provide a more cohesive district math program throughout grades 6-12.
The 7th through 8th grade English Language Arts (ELA) teachers and students will receive new instructional materials (Houghton Mifflin - Collection Series) which are currently used in grades 9-12. This will complete implementation of the technology infused ELA instructional resources in grades 6-12. The Houghton Mifflin Collections Series, provides students with an e-textbook and an e- workbook for students. Now all students in grades 6-12 have access to e-book access to instructional materials and resources in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Ewing High School will open a Tomorrow Teachers course for students who are interested in pursuing a career as a teacher. This course is being presented in collaboration with The College of New Jersey and Rider University. Student will have access to eleven Advanced Placement (AP) “on campus” courses at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Rider University and both “on campus” and “online courses” at Mercer County Community College. We will continue to provide students participating in SATs access to an online SAT preparation course six to eight weeks prior to their scheduled SAT test. Students can sign-up for SAT prep access through the High School Counseling Office.
As a district, we embrace using best practices in all areas to promote instruction. We continue to support a vibrant and growing music, art, World Language, Business and Family and Consumer Science classes.
Our district mission statement is Providing Learning for All. We continue our commitment to bringing this statement to life daily with staff and students. Thank you for the opportunity to share with you the various initiatives which are occurring throughout the district. It is important for you to know about the tremendous works happening across our buildings to support our teachers and promote increased student learning and achievement.
Have a wonderful school year!
