Shalieka Jarrett joined Principal Ed Chmiel’s administrative team as an Assistant Principal at Ewing High School, replacing Dr. Karen Allen (Benton) who is taking on the role of Director of Counseling Services and Assessment for the school district on July 1, 2019. Ms. Jarrett joined the district in 2009 as a Guidance Counselor at Ewing High School and moved into the Dean of Students position in November 2018.
Ms. Jarrett has obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Learning and Behavior Disorders from Hampton University, her Master’s degree in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Maryland and her Educational Specialist Degree in Education Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University. Ms. Jarett has New Jersey Educational certificates as a Teacher of the Handicapped, School Counselor, Director of School Counseling Services, Supervisor, and Principal.
In her role as a guidance counselor, she was able to assist students in grades 9-12 achieve personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, and develop and set informed career goals as they journey to become productive and contributing members of a global community.
Ms. Jarrett is the former Ewing High School Anti-Bullying Specialist and Back-up ABS, EHS Scholarship Coordinator, has served on the Senior Awards Night Committee, former PSAT/SAT Coordinator and developed and facilitated several School Counseling Department parent workshops.
Ms. Jarrett is also a former resource and collaborative teacher of students with learning disabilities.
“We like to envision our assistant principals as principals in training,” Superintendent Michael Nitti commented. “We truly believe that Ms. Jarrett will be an outstanding school leader, and an effective shaper of a positive school culture at Ewing High School.”
Mr. Michael Colonna

Mr. Michael Colonna joined the Ewing Schools in 2021. He comes to Ewing from Point Pleasant Borough High School, where he was an accomplished teacher, coach and instructional leader. Mr. Colonna has a Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies and a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from West Virginia University. He then earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration from Georgian Court College.
"Mr. Colonna impressed us throughout a rigorous and comprehensive interview process," Principal Chmiel stated. "We believe he is a high-energy, positive, dedicated educator who will make an excellent addition to our high school team."
