Computer enrichment courses have been re-designed to provide our students with innovative learning experiences that meet their expectations and needs. Students will have the opportunity to explore and learn current and emerging applications that use the computer as a learning tool. Students will have access to state of the art Interactive Whiteboards in the computer enrichment classrooms. The program includes Google applications, Animation, Engineering, Design and Process and Robotics, Computer Science and Cyber Literacy.
Exploring Technology: An Introduction to Engineering
The emphasis of this course is to introduce the student to the basic concepts of technology. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, and test their engineered projects. Topics will include engineering-design activities and the study of processes that affect design. Students will also develop skills in researching for information and communicating design information.
As computers become an increasingly important part of daily living, many people believe that computer literacy is vital to success. The potential applications computers are used for within the world today continue to expand. This enrichment course is designed to give students a broad exposure to current and emerging computer applications. In this class, all students have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of computer based activities and reinforce their learning by creating a number of hands-on projects.
The emphasis of this course is to use robotics to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics(STEM) to life. Throughout the course, students will be exposed to building and programming robotic behaviors. Using Legos, there will be a focus on experimenting with robotic motors, sensors and programming so that they learn how a robot really works.
Computer Science Unplugged
This course will give students a basic understanding of computer science through hands on activities including coding. The activities will introduce students to Computational Thinking through concepts such as binary numbers, algorithms and data compression
Exploring Technology: Invention and Innovation
Students will have the opportunity to experience and discover the history of inventions and innovations by exploring the key concepts of technology and solving problems using engineering design and experimentation. Students will have the opportunity to use their creativity to design, build and evaluate new products. They will learn how various inventions and innovations have affected their lives
Introduction to Computer Animation
By telling a compelling story, defying the laws of physics, or creating abstract motion, animating can infuse a sequence of images with the illusion of life. But without a firm understanding of the principles of animation, characters fall flat. Students will learn the basic skills of planning, timing, 3D modeling and stop motion using the computer, storyboards and drawings.
Computers are available for classrooms use to enhance the integration of technology into the curriculum. All classrooms throughout the school have been set up with a computer teaching station and are connected to a printer. All classrooms are networked to allow for easy access to the Internet for research purposes. Teachers with technology in their rooms have committed not only to the integration of technology throughout their curriculum, but also to extra hours of in-service training. Classroom teachers have access to 6 laptop carts for a total of 180 computers with a printer for use in the classroom. Additionally 4 ChromeBook notebook carts for a total of 120 notebooks, and 4 Document cameras and projector carts are available.
Computer Lab (Rm 119)
The computer is viewed as a tool for the improvement of thinking and writing skills hence, an integral part of the curriculum. All teams have equal access to this lab as a resource, where students have the opportunity to learn, reinforce, develop, expand, and apply their computer skills in the production of documents related to the curricula of their grade level.
